Duration: 1.5 hours
Grade: Intermediate to advanced*
Horse riding in Australia's Blue Mountains is the ideal way to become familiar with the land. Weather permitting, rides occur all year round; usually starting out at 0830 hours.
The resort's Field Guides meet riders at the Homestead before transferring them to the stables in a luxury four-wheel drive. They help in selecting a suitable mount, and following a brief assessment of each rider's skills, the ride begins along one of a number of trails.
The grades and types of these vary according to weather conditions and the ability of the riders. The types of Blue Mountains terrain and the wildlife encountered can differ quite considerably; so that the same trail, ridden twice, will be a totally different experience each time.
Field Guides are supplied with all the necessary safety equipment, and riders remain within radio contact of the resort throughout.
For experienced equestrians, a 12 kilometre ride is available as a half day excursion; such guided trips take a circular route allowing the full extent of Donkey Mountain to be explored. A gourmet picnic lunch is provided.
To take part in this very special activity, guests may consult their Guest Services Agent who will be happy to make the necessary arrangements.
*Please note: in order to ride at Wolgan Valley, a minimum of three years equestrian experience is required. Riders should weigh no more than 85 kilograms (185 pounds). Inexperienced or uncertain riders may 'try out' in the lunging ring. Riding hats are compulsory at all times. Age restrictions may apply, dependent on experience.
