
Feel free to stroll out into the desert on your own to explore the surrounding area, remembering to keep the resort in sight for your own safety.
However, to really appreciate and understand the subtleties of the dunes, and learn about desert lore, Field Guides offer a variety of walks, usually at dawn and late afternoon. Each guide has his or her favourite parts of the reserve, and walks may be directly from the resort, or by way of a short drive to begin from a particular spot.
Walks in the desert present a totally different experience from the nature drive, focusing on the detail and tracking, really looking closely at the finer points and exploring the extensive plant life amid the dunes.
Your guide will tell you names of plants, instructing their traditional uses to the Bedouin tribes that lived their nomadic lives in the region, as well as pointing out the likely habitats of some of the creatures native to the area.
